Abstract:

PyCOMPSs is a pioneer approach on task-based programming in Python. Based on simple annotations, sequential Python programs can be executed in parallel in HPC-clusters and other distributed infrastructures. Additionally to the traditional directionality clauses that enable the runtime to define the data-dependencies between tasks, PyCOMPSs has been recently extended to support tasks’ resource constraints, tasks’ versions, and multi-threaded and multi-node tasks. The talk will present the PyCOMPSs basics and its recent extensions for cloud-to-edge environments, as well as an overview of dislib, a machine learning library parallelized with PyCOMPSs.

Speaker Bio:

Rosa M. Badia, Ph.D.
Rosa holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC). She is the manager of the Workflows and Distributed Computing research group at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC).  Her current research interest are programming models for complex platforms (from edge, fog, to Clouds and large HPC systems). The group led by Dr. Badia has been developing StarSs programming model for more than 10 years.
