About the Event

Recent advances at IBM Research in the area of Bayesian statistical techniques have resulted in an IBM software product that is agnostic to any HPC vendor system to dramatically speed up the total time it takes to complete hundreds and thousands of iterative HPC jobs.

The areas of focus are currently Reservoir Simulation, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Computational Biology/Chemistry, and Drug Discovery. Others may come forth as the science is tested. It doesn’t matter what HPC system you use since the software AI engine is out of band. Results for tuning and optimizing the “next run” are created in seconds with API feedback to the associated simulation solver for the “next run”.

IBM Research has worked with scientists all over the world ranging from UT Austin Petroleum Engineering to Merck Pharmaceuticals in the UK to perfect the methodology.

The software is free for the academic community to do research,  while it is a paid subscription for commercial/industrial entities.

About the Speakers

Chekuri S. Choudary, Ph.D.
AI Specialist

Dr. Chekuri S. Choudary has an application-oriented research background and experience in multiple areas of computing including multimedia processing and retrieval, high performance computing, hardware design and artificial intelligence. He acted as a Principal Investigator for multiple SBIR/STTR projects in collaboration with national labs and universities. His current efforts at IBM involve evangelizing AI adoption in enterprises and cross disciplinary academia, designing AI solutions, and developing new service offerings catering to the emerging AI technology landscape.

Terry Leatherland
Client Technical Architect, IBM

Terry joined IBM as a cross brand Systems Architect 10 years ago after a 25 year career with HP. He currently serves as a Client Technical Architect for the State of Texas, Illinois, and Ohio account teams, and Blue Cross. This role includes Healthcare, Education, Life Sciences, and Government entities. He also serves as a go-to on High Performance computing and AI server & storage solutions for IBM across the US.

Prior to that, at HP his work for the first 15 years spanned the Chemistry Quality Assurance environment across the Gulf Coast. He has sold and engineered Laboratory Automation systems to every major Oil/Chemical company on the coast interfacing with all major laboratory instrumentation and process control systems. Later Terry transitioned in HP to an Enterprise Systems Architect for the US for Oracle, PeopleSoft, SAP and other enterprise systems for the next 10 years.

Terry received his BS Chemistry /Computer Science from the University of Alabama. He is a resident of Sugar Land, TX with a wife and 4 daughters, all with BS or graduate degrees from Texas A&M, University of Houston, Oklahoma State, Baylor, and the University of Texas at Antonio. Terry loves to fish the Texas Gulf coast and play golf when its not too hot.
