Emerging Technologies: 3D quantum computing devices at the SQMS research center and QIS ecosystem
28 October 2021 | Live stream
Watch videos and/or download presentation
About the Event
Recent major advances are making quantum technology more feasible and available to users, still coherence time is currently one of the most limiting mechanism of quantum systems and devices. The main mission of the Superconducting Quantum Materials and Systems research centers is to achieve transformational advances, understand and mitigate coherence mechanisms in superconducting quantum devices.
The speaker will review studies on 3D quantum devices and the generalization of the basic quantum bit (qubit) to a D-dimensional Hilbert space (qudit) to perform more efficient quantum algorithms. The SQMS research center is also committed to empowering the next generation of quantum scientists and engineers and contribute to the advancement of the related ecosystem. This talk will therefore cover new opportunities developed and implemented by the SQMS Quantum Information Science (QIS) Ecosystem Thrust.
About the Speaker
Silvia Zorzetti, Ph.D.
Deputy Head, Quantum Computing Co-Design Department, Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory SQMS
Silvia Zorzetti is a senior engineer at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. She is currently deputy head for the co-design department at the National Quantum Information Science Research Center – Superconducting Quantum Materials and Systems Division. She is also deputy leader of the ecosystem and workforce development thrust for the SQMS center.
Silvia joined Fermilab in 2017 as a Bardeen Fellow. During her Ph.D. in Electronics Engineering and Information Technology from the University of Pisa, she was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow at the European Council for Nuclear Research (CERN). She is focusing on multimode quantum systems and enabling applications on long-coherence quantum devices. On the QIS ecosystem, she is leading a group committed to expanding the range of opportunities for talented students and bridge collaborations with partners and collaborators.
